DENFAIR 2018 – Natural Materials

Comdain's Interior Designer, Danijela Blazevic from Forte Interiors, shares what natural material trends caught her eye at DENFAIR 2018.

In terms of colours, there are three clear trends emerging: the first is natural earthy tones, textures and materials.

I loved the furniture and the inspirational people from Manapan Furniture. The company is owned and run by Yolngu, the indigenous people who have lived in Arnham Land for over 50,000 years, with the assistance of a few non indigenous people who are very dedicated to the Yolngu people. The beautifully hand crafted pieces of furniture illustrate the use of natural materials (timber, stone and leather) blended together to create a unique style. Each piece of furniture tells a story related to the land of the Yolngu people.

Other favourites were Safari who displayed beautiful earthy tones and textures that are trending in furniture and accessories, and Halcyon Lake had lovely examples of natural fibres combined with earthy colours and inviting textures.

Natural materials and soft organic shapes are also influencing bathroom ware. How good would this bath look in a Comdain Homes luxury ensuite?

The second colour trend developing is pastels, think soft blues, greens, yellows, lilacs and pinks.

Pastel colours combined with clever sofa bed design from Innovation Living is a winning combination. Out with boring sofa bed designs and in with stylish modern functional pieces of furniture you can showcase in any part of your home.

DENFAIR 2018 ZesterZuster a leading Melbourne manufacture well known for their innovative furniture and bathroom joinery designs, displayed their modern take on a wing back chair in soft pastels. I can see this chair in any modern living room, bedroom or study area.

And how beautifully simple are these contemporary concrete basins from Nood Concrete – love the clever name too!

And the third up and coming colour trend is the use of bright colours used as accents, splashes of yellow, red, green and blue featured at the show.

This image illustrates bright blue being used as an accent colour with the warm earthy tones of this setting. It also demonstrates an emerging softer shape to furniture that was also evident at the show.

Again, a softer shape sofa, where bright yellow is used on the seat cushions and two back cushions to add a splash of colour.

“The highlight of building our home with Comdain is the joy knowing all the intricate details of our house, for example I know the first brick that was laid, where the pillars are, etc. I can walk around the house knowing where the water pipes run.”
