CLASSIC KNOCK DOWN AND REBUILD ON A SLOPING BLOCK

We’ve recently handed over this beautiful, custom designed family home to the Toscano family, which totally reflects their lifestyle and needs. The house, which has great views of the Kinglake mountain range, is built over three levels on a fairly steep site.

This is a tale of a classic knock down and rebuild. The Toscano’s loved the magnificent views, the neighbourhood and their neighbours, but they’d had enough of living in their tired old house and trying to make it work for their needs. Because the site was so steep, they’d been told it would be way too complex and costly to do anything useful with. So they found another block of land nearby and were ready to sell up.

A friend of theirs had not long ago built a home with Comdain Homes and referred the Toscano’s to John Coen, our managing director. John met with the family and assessed their existing block of land and took a look at the block they intended to buy. Comdain Homes has extensive experience building on sloping blocks and John convinced them to stay on their original block, although steep, because they loved their neighbours and the block had magnificent views that were superior to their new option.

Comdain Homes custom designed a new home over three levels with a pool and landscaping by TLC Pools on the lower level with direct access to a wet area, bathroom and laundry. The large living areas on the next level up feature floor to ceiling windows which makes the family feel they’re sitting up amongst the tree tops. The upper level comprises bedrooms that enjoy magnificent views across the valley towards the mountains.

This is a great example of a client listening to good advice from a knowledgeable custom builder from the start and undertaking a knock down rebuild to create a dream home in the neighbourhood you absolutely love.
